This class focuses on working with African-Americans in a behavioral health setting. We will explore the impact of intergenerational trauma on the Black community. You will leave with a broader understanding of the impact of displacement, slavery and genocide on Black communities today.

Description: This workshop is designed for white people that are interested in changing racist behavior and achieving a deeper understanding of cultural empathy.
In this class we will explore the key concepts of empathy and barriers that white people have to understanding people of color and empathizing at a deeper level with communities of color, specifically the Black community.
Key questions:
How do the values of white supremacy and privilege show up for you?
When you think about cultural norms and culture, what are some identities that you have?
What media portrayals of Black people impact your perception of culture in the black community?
How do media images of Black people perpetuate othering?
This class is focused on promoting healing and achieving a deeper understanding of cultural empathy through dialogue, group discussions and exploring white supremacy values and personal bias.
Participants will leave with tools to continue on the journey of self-exploration and learn techniques to dig deeper into personal bias and begin healing from internalized whiteness.
